Save Electricity, Save Money, and Save the Environment

Most people use electricity every day. In 2015-2016, India used 1075 KWh/year of electricity, which is a third of the world’s average. However, that is not all, as the consumption of electricity in our country is growing every year on account of the increasing population that has access to electricity. It is possible to save money and lessen the burden on the environment by reducing our consumption of electricity.

Here are some small changes that can be made to save electricity:

  • Boil only as much water as needed in a kettle or on the stove.
  • Put the AC (air conditioner) at the optimal temperature which is 24-25°C in India (varies slightly according to outside temperature).
  • Try to reduce AC consumption by 1 hour a day by relying on the fan for some time.
  • Turn off devices and the main switch when not in use. This also increases the lifespan of the device.
  • Try to switch to some form of renewable energy source if possible. A solar water heater also saves money in the long run.
  • Switch to LED bulbs and save 80-90% electricity.

Electricity is needed every day; however, it is possible to save electricity, save money, and save the environment all at the same time without inconveniencing our use of electricity.
